Today in the Garden of a Lifetime: Gold-leaved Siberian Dogwood

There was a light frost last night—but it isn't an early Fall chill that caused the leaves of this Siberian dogwood to shine.  They're bright gold all season long.

Bright colors are even more exciting when paired with darker.  The stems of my Cornus alba 'Aurea' swarm around the deep green spire of a columnar Japanese holly, Ilex crenata 'Sky Pencil'  .

For Gold-leaved Siberian dogwood, Winter isn't the off season.  The gold foliage drops away and the bark of the young stems becomes bright orange, yellow, and red.  You can see the beginnings of this stunning annual show in these stems' reddish blush.

Here's how to grow this easy colorful shrub.
